At St. Martin's Lutheran Church, we have a simple hope: to see people come to know Jesus Christ and grow in their Christian faith. For over 100 years, we've been helping spread God's good news here in our hometown of Annapolis and throughout the world. Whether you've been attending church for years or have not stepped into a sanctuary in decades, we hope you'll come and join us Sunday if you're looking for a church in Annapolis. We're always excited to welcome new visitors. We hope you will join us for a service, and we want to make your visit as comfortable as possible. Here's what you can expect when you come to either our 8:00am or 10:00am service.
Church Council has approved the recommendation of our COVID-19 Task Force to re-open in-person worship on March 28th. This will be a modified reopening, meaning that all of our developed safety protocols will be implemented for both inside and outside worship. These protocols include a check-in station, mask wearing and social distancing at all times. There will be no congregational singing or response while indoors, and shorter than normal worship services. Our 8:00am service will be outside in our courtyard and the 10:00am service will be held in the sanctuary.
While many have received one or both shots, we know that many still have not. Therefore, our plan is to offer regular outdoor worship options and continue to utilize our YouTube channel. Please note one change to our virtual worship: we will begin to “live-stream” the 10:00am indoor service. The service will post at 10:00am instead of 8:00am. As before, the service will catalogue on our channel and will be available for later viewing at any future point.
Where is St. Martin's? Our church is located at 1120 Spa Road and parking is located on either side of the church with entrances off Forest Drive or Spa Road. For a map and driving directions, click here.
What do I wear? Please don't worry about what you'll wear to church for we truly believe people should come to God as they are. Once you walk in the doors, you'll see that the congregation consists of all types of people in all kinds of dress. Shorts are as welcome as suits, and you will see both. We just want you to be comfortable!
After I arrive, where do I go? When you walk in, find one of our ushers and introduce yourself. They will show you where everything is.
What may I expect in worship? During the service, you will hear our faith expressed in the songs we sing, prayers we offer up, and our pastor's preaching. Click here to learn more about our worship service.
May I receive Holy Communion? Holy Communion is celebrated each week. The Lutheran faith acknowledges the real presence of Jesus crucified and risen in the Eucharist. All baptized Christians who affirm God’s presence and forgiveness in Holy Communion are invited to the Lord’s table. Both wine and grape juice are available. We also have a gluten free option available. Those not receiving bread and wine are invited to come forward for a blessing.
Do children attend worship? We encourage parents to include kids of all ages in worship. In support of this, we offer worship bags at the rear of the sanctuary with quiet activities kids can enjoy during the service either in the pew with their family or at a table in the rear of the sanctuary. We also offer a Children’s Message during the 10:00am service where kids are called to the front for a special message.
Is there a Sunday School? In between services you can join our inter-generational learning hour F.I.S.H. (Friends in Service of Him) in the Fellowship rooms at 9:00am. Also at this time is our confirmation class for middle-school-aged students and youth gatherings for high-school-aged students. For more information on our inter-generational education hour, click here.
After the service? Be sure to hang around after the 10:00am service and join us for coffee and refreshments. You will have a chance to meet our pastor and many other people in the church. We would also love to get to know you so you're a familiar face the next time you come.
No matter what your Christian background is (or isn't), we hope you'll join us on Sunday. Here at St. Martin's, you'll find people of all sizes, stripes and colors, and we welcome everyone--including you.
