Holiday Sharing
St. Martin’s participates in the “Holiday Sharing” program run by the Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services. Through this program, St. Martin’s volunteers provide Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners and gifts to the needy in the Annapolis area.
As the holidays approach, notices are published in the Sunday Bulletin and Tabletalk Newsletter asking for help and volunteers. At Thanksgiving, St. Martin’s provides needy families with groceries for their holiday dinner. Similarly, at Christmas, St. Martin’s provides needy families with both groceries and Christmas gifts for children and family members. St. Martin’s members are called to help with gifts and groceries and delivery of the items to the families.
Meals on Wheels
Meals on Wheels is in its third decade of service to the homebound in the Annapolis area. Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland is a non-profit organization that sponsors this program with administrative, financial and management assistance.
Volunteers deliver the meals and work as often as they wish or fill in as substitutes on a day of choice. The tasks include driving or helping with delivery from 11:00 until 1:00. Meals are provided to those who are ill, incapacitated or otherwise unable to procure or prepare food for themselves. Volunteers are always needed, and all are welcome.
Seafarers Ministry
St. Martin’s has participated in the ministry to the Seafarers at the Dundalk Marine Terminal for many years. Every year beginning in November, toiletries and other personal items are brought to the Narthex for the Seafarers. We then package these items in shoe boxes and gift wrap them for delivery to the Terminal for Christmas Distribution.
Red Cross Blood Drives
As one of the many outreach programs at Saint Martin's, we partner with the American Red Cross several times each year to host blood drives. We recruit many donors and provide all the facilities, volunteers and snacks that are needed for the donors. Over the years, this ministry has added many units of precious blood to the Greater Chesapeake and Potomac Blood Services blood banks.
