As I write these words, the world is once again waiting. This time for election results.
2020 has included a lot of waiting and longing for many. Waiting for hopeful news about the pandemic. Longing for the political acrimony to graduate into a spirit of cooperation to fix things. Waiting to return to life as normal in our worship, service, study, and fellowship at St. Martin’s. However, forces beyond us control these matters that have us waiting and longing. And that can stir frustration, anxiety, and even some despair after a while.
But…then there is hope. Because we belong to Christ, we are reminded that His hope and light even (or especially) break into the frustrations, longing, and waiting in our souls.
He will never leave us. And through eyes of faith, we are enabled to count the blessings we do have and the work we must do as citizens of His earthly kingdom. That knowledge does change the dynamic of our current situation. Acknowledging it during this month when the Thanksgiving holiday meets us is also helpful because even now…even now…
words that we might carry with us are hope and thanksgiving in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Please know that along with our staff members, I am praying for you all. I remain thankful for your faithfulness and am praying that our Lord will give us patience in waiting, perseverance on the journey, comfort when things distress us, hope in His promises, and thanksgiving in all things.
Know that we are here to help and always standing-ready.
